Today, there is some kind of politician making some kind of speech to some kind of crowd, trying to spread some kind of message in preparation for some kind of event. Ananke has never been one for politics, so the details are admittedly lost on her. Not that she doesn't know what to do; her orders had been to supervise and protect. You certainly don't need to know whatever political agenda this human is pushing to make sure he doesn't get shot.

As far as assignments go, it's a less strenuous, but more tedious one, but that suits Ananke find because it means less work and presumably less paperwork for the district. There are literal mountains of papers inside her office. She's ordered some paper files and they can't arrive soon enough.

The man on the podium drones. Witnesses yawn. Ananke stands watch.

It'll be a long day today.

The Blanchard heir stood at the back of the crowd, arms crossed over his chest as he lazily watched the man currently addressing the crowd. He had been informed it was his duty to attend the press conference, although he had refused to really listen to the reason for doing so. It was a chunk out of his day that he could have spent doing more important things, but he had learned time and again that it wasn't wise to ignore the company's board members. They would only give him an earful about his responsibilities as CEO the next day if he didn't attend the politician's speech. His grey-blue eyes drifted away from the politician to instead look out at the crowd currently gathered beneath his podium, a mass of journalists, camera men, and other influential members of society. Boring. He recognized a few of them, but as they had not yet seen him, he refused to go over and greet them.

The sooner this was done, the sooner he could head back home.

Étienne's attention returned back to the man that was nearing the end of his speech, only finally beginning to listen in on what he was talking about. Suddenly the French heir felt a hand grab his shoulder and push him aside as a brute of a man pushed his way into the crowd. The Vice Lord sidestepped out of the man's way, choosing not to react immediately. Instead he merely trained his attention on the man that was pushing and shoving his way to the front of the crowd, the man's hard set eyes trained on the man that was currently finishing up his speech. Oh. A man in his position could recognize the signs very well of what the man's intentions were... And yet, the thief didn't speak up. He chose instead to watch as the man grew closer and closer to the stage, curious to see how the events would play out.

While she's only one officer in a sea of Legionnaires, Ananke happens to be near the front due to her position. It's because of this, that when a man forces his way through the crowd, the initial scuffles begin too far away for her to be immediately alerted. It had been somewhere farther back, the commands of some officer telling some civilian that he was required to step back, away from the stage. Less muffled and distant are the gunshots that follow.

Somewhere five or six rows behind, a man, a large and hulking one, barrels through the rows of officers, gunning them down or simply tackling them aside as he hurtles towards the stage, a comet about to impact. Ananke sees him approaching, aims her gun to fire- but then he disappears. Invisibility? No, teleportation; he materializes a few more rows ahead, and keeps running for the politician. So he had a good enough handle on it to give him an edge, but not enough to reach the stage instantly.

Ananke returns her gun to her holster. It'd be more hazardous to risk sending more stray bullets into the audience.

Then she teleports in front of the would be assassin, and punches him in the stomach.

The man keels over and wretches, but before the Captain can land another hit, disappears again, gun in hand. He's obviously trying to reach the politician so Ananke ports as well, landing just behind the intended target. The assassin shoots-

And hits the Captain.

There is a moment of silence from the crowd. The assassin is slightly stunned, but Ananke takes this as an opportunity to grab his arms and break them simultaneously. She doesn't bother teleporting, just lunges forward like an animal and seizes his limbs. It's like snapping twigs. Perhaps some less aggressiveness could had been afforded, but she's not in the best of moods after getting shot. It's fortunate that all the Legionnaires present had been wearing vests, for obvious reasons.

The reaction from the Legion is immediate the moment they notice the man barreling towards the stage without a care about the ruckus he was creating. The crowd's murmur began to grow louder as everyone else currently attending the speech began to notice the man — though most of them did not realize the immediate danger of the situation the way trained professionals did. They were curious about the commotion, the photographers turning their lenses in the man's direction to snap shots of him — right up until the gunshots began to ring out. The crowd began to scream as panic finally set in, the innocent civilians beginning to scatter as they attempted to race away from the madman currently hiring bullets at the Legionnaires trying to stop him. Étienne felt someone grab his shoulder and try to pull him away from the chaos, but he shook off his bodyguard's hand with a glare thrown in the man's direction. The man instantly backed off; he knew better than to argue.

It was foolish, perhaps, for the Vice Lord to stay where he was while the rest of the crowd scattered to find cover. But the Blanchard heir wanted to see how it would all go down. Assassinations were something he was familiar with; he had already had an assassination attempt on his own life when he had first took up the mantle as Vice Lord, and for a mafioso, it was nothing out of the norm. Blue-grey eyes watched as the man suddenly disappeared before reappearing only a few feet away from the stage. That was when all hell broke loose.

A Legionnaire suddenly appeared in front of the man to knock him back, only to be shot herself. But no blood came. Bullet proof vest? The rest happened in a split second as the man let out a blood curdling scream when his arms were broken, his rampage coming to a swift close as the rest of the officers closed in on his location to subdue him. Most of the civilians had already left the vicinity, the rest of them still hanging around were mostly photographers trying to take last-minute shots as the rest of the Legionnaires pushed them away from the scene of the attack so they had more room to apprehend the criminal.

“Mr. Blanchard?” Étienne heard one of his bodyguards call his name from behind him.

“That Legionnaire...” he whispered in a low voice to his man so the rest of the police officers around them couldn't hear, “is a danger to the organization. Since when did the Legion recruit such adept officers?” This did not bode well for them.

The man screams again, and while that's a natural reaction for someone whose arms had been broken simultaniously, it'd be troublesome for the event if everyone were distracted by the shouting, so Ananke chooses to loop the sound back towards him. Nothing too drastic; merely directing all the vibrations back to the sender, as if a stranger were shouting in his ears instead. If he notices, the volume of his screams give no indication.

"Captain!" A lieutenant her of hers approaches, squeezing her way through the half-confused, half panicked crowd, then running full force as she breaks free of the opposing mass of people. "Are you all right? We tried to stop him, he was just- he just pushed right through us-"

"Everything's fine." Ananke fishes out a pair of cuffs and encircles the failed assassisin's hands. They stick at some unnatural angles, but it's protocol to cuff those under arrest, so she does it anyways. "Take him in," she orders. "Escort the..."

"Mr. Vermont, ma'am?"

"Escort him to safety. Take him and any injured personnel to the station, and get the rest to evacuate the area." Whatever speech and agenda that had been planned today will have to finish on another date. No one will hardly listen now.

The Legion had, without a doubt, changed since the last time the Blanchard heir had been in the City. They had been like dogs the last time he had been here, chasing their tails and perpetually in heat. But now it seems like they had finally increased their manpower... Which meant it would also make things difficult for Kairos in the long run. No, this was definitely something he couldn't just sit by and let happen. He felt a hand fall on his shoulder again as his bodyguard once more silently requested that he follow him, but Étienne merely shook his head and instead started walking towards the mass of Legionnaires that were still surrounding the criminal. He managed to walk past a couple of the more busy Legionnaires before he finally got noticed and one of them moved to intervene, telling him that all civilians had to get back. The man emphasized his words by placing a hand on the French heir's chest to hold him back, and Étienne could feel his bodyguards immediately tense up.

He looked back and shook his head at them ever-so-subtly before turning back with a smile on his face to the cop in front of him.

“I only wish to congratulate the officer that was so quick in taking down the criminal before things turned ugly,” he grinned, his tone ever so fake with niceness; the same tone he used when dealing with business clients. “I'm sure my company would be impressed knowing just how efficient the Legion is as well, and would possibly be interested in... Giving a donation to reward your efforts,” he mused, causing the officer to hesitate. Considering the Legion was technically a private organization, Étienne knew a donation from a wealthy benefactor such as his father's company would be highly appreciated. Too bad he didn't plan to actually go through with it, right?

Finally the officer moved away and told him to wait a second as he went to fetch the women that had so swiftly taken down the assassin. The Blanchard heir's men moved in closer to him as they waited, ready to take action should anything turn sour from here on out.

'Dogs' is still a rather accurate way to describe the Legion, packish as they are with their hierarchy of wolves. Perhaps it's only because he's seen a Captain in action that Etienne has a reason to be impressed. Then again, Ananke is certainly more geared towards combat than many of her coworkers. It certainly hadn't been her plan to be. Since coming to work for the Legion, her dominions simply developed that way. A surprise, considering her upbringing.

She's giving more orders when Blanchard approaches, dictating routes to hospitals and instructions for investigation. The arrival is unexpected; a shooting had just occurred, and this man, heavily guarded and clearly important (or at least self-important) wants to waste an officer's time? There certainly can't be any pressing matters at hand, unless he knows something about the shooter. "Can I help you, sir?" The Captain has to turn away from several subordinates to address him, clearly busy. "If you're looking to evacuate, there are several officers on hand who can show you the quickest route to safety." Translation: this better be important, or you'll be wasting her time.

He waited until one of the other officers allowed him to get closer to the scene of the crime, whether packs of Legionnaires were still discussing what to do with the criminal and the politician who had almost lost his life that day. The officer that he was looking to speak to didn't look very impressed that a normal civilian was trying to talk to her while she was busy, but it did not bother the Blanchard heir. He instead simply kept the smile plastered on his face, grey-blue eyes taking in the rest of the officers for a moment before he returned his attention back to the woman in front of him. He could practically feel the tension flowing off of his men, but they knew better than to start something first.

“I merely wanted to congratulate you on how quickly you apprehended the criminal,” he remarked, eyes sliding past her for a moment to look at the man still curled into a ball on the ground, in very obvious pain. “Although I must admit, I didn't realize the Legion went to such... Lengths when it came to stopping their target.” The grin stayed on his face and his voice did not change, but there was something about the way he said his words... That made it very clear he was insinuating something. He was a business man after all, and he knew how to use his silver tongue when required. It was almost as if he was trying to investigate something without outright saying it — which, to be fair, wasn't all that far from the truth. He wanted to know just how far the Legion is willing to go now to crack down on crime.

“Étienne Blanchard, CEO of Blanchard Industries. I'm sure my company will be rather impressed with the Legion when I tell them about what happened her,” he moved on so quickly and smoothly, it was as if he had never been insinuating something to start with.

So he's one of those types. The sort with the fake smile and the oiled words, pretending to be impressed while underhandedly criticizing the Legion at the same time. The most irritating type of bystander, in Ananke's opinion, because it usually means they're White Rabbit affiliated, and often determined to be a pain in her side. "We were facing an immediate threat that had to be neutralized," the Captain says as diplomatically as possible. "Based on the dominions the man had available to him, disarming him as quickly as possible was the priority." Emphasis on he disarming. It had been very effective as far as split second decisions go. In the end, no one got hurt but the assailant and a few officers suffering from flesh wounds.

Etienne moves on from the subject, but Ananke will remember what he had said. Like she'd suspected, he's someone rich and eager to use the clout of his company. Which is all well and good, except Ananke on an individual level does not care one iota for donations. That's the PR departments' problems to deal with. She only needs to be regularly paid. And there are no protocols in place requiring her to procure said donations. So. "I'm sure the department will be honored. However, the area is still very dangerous, so if you wish to discuss it, I recommend you come down to the station to talk about it in detail." She glances at the heavy-set guards at his flank. Inwardly, Ananke wonders how often he lets them protect him, or if he's the sort who'll run off and risk getting killed. Preferably the latter. Those impulsive types are easier to deal with. "You can never be too careful, especially since we haven't confirmed the existence of accomplices."

“You almost disarmed him, alright,” he mused with a subtle smirk on his lips, eyes cast down to look at the man still rolling in pain from where his arms had been broken. She was quick to make a comeback for his comment about his company, urging him to leave the area seeing as how it could still be dangerous, and that if he wanted to talk he would be best off meeting down at the Legion headquarters. No way am I going back there unless I have to, he thought inwardly, but he did not change the expression on his face in the slightest.

“Of course, I wouldn't want to hinder your job any further,” he remarked before digging into the inner pocket of his suit jacket for a moment before drawing free one of his business cards. “This is my business card. My company is hosting a Halloween Bash in a couple of days at the Tyche Resort and Casino, starting at six pm. I do hope I will be able to see you there so we can talk further,” his eyes dipped downward for a moment to read the badge on her chest before he returned his gaze to hers, keeping the eye contact as he finished, “Captain Ananke.” He threw her one last grin before he turned and headed away from the danger, his bodyguards swarming around him as he did so. Oh, their next meeting would surely prove to be interesting. He always did like a challenge, after all.
